I'm sat outside, coffee in hand and the sun on my face. When the wind drops I can feel the warmth of it and it reminds me of lazy summer days (of course when the wind blows it's blooming freezing but it’s April in England so you can’t have it all (or at least it was when I wrote this - it’s taken me a little time to get it up on here!). The sky is the most beautiful Spring blue with fluffy white clouds. It’s a pastel blue - richer in colour than the weaker blues of Winter but not quite as vivid as in Summer.
The white blossom on the trees in the field next to my house is thick and bright and the blackbirds are chirping away. The boys have been drawing in chalk on the patio, the bright colours of their creations and writing practice decorating the usually dull bricks. Now they have moved on to playing kitchens, passing me pretend breakfast dishes out of the window - coffee and pastries, occasionally mixed up with eggs on toast with a side of fruit. It’s truly a beautiful morning, the riches of life wrapped deep inside these tiny moments. They are rarer than I would like - I’m currently on annual leave from work while the boys are on Easter holiday. Mornings like this are usually reserved for Sundays - the rest of the time passes in a blur of school runs, work commutes, cooking and errand sorting. I could live an entire lifetime inside moments like these though and it would be a life well lived. In fact this feels like the very best version of life and I am wondering how to maximise these moments. Even if I cannot fill each day with them how can I ensure that each day has at least one of them? How can I focus on them and appreciate them properly?
There are some things about life that we cannot change and some things that maybe we can but the reality of doing so can feel too big for us to manage (at least in one bite). Adding tiny beautiful moments to life feels achievable though and perhaps, at the end of the day, these tiny moments will have more of an impact than any big sweeping change. So I’ve decided to do just this - to make sure that I notice or create one beautiful tiny moment each day and to really sit and appreciate it. I’ll write about these little moments here as a way of sharing them with you and to hold myself accountable along this journey. I hope they bring a little moment of happiness to your day too and perhaps inspire you to notice those tiny moments happening in your own day. I would love to hear about them if you do.
